Oral Appliance Therapy<\/strong><\/h2>

MANDIBULAR ADVANCEMENT SPLINTS (MAS)<\/strong><\/p>

Oral appliances called Mandibular Advancement Splints (MAS)<\/strong> are worn only while sleeping. They are a custom fitted \u2018mouth guard\u2019 that gently hold the lower jaw and tongue forward thus opening your airway.<\/p>

MAS devices fit completely within the mouth. You can speak, drink water, yawn and even kiss while wearing them.<\/p>

MAS devices are\u00a0often the first line treatment for snoring<\/strong> and mild to moderate<\/strong> obstructive sleep apnoea, and an excellent alternative to CPAP. <\/strong>They are also compact and ideal for travelling<\/p>

Teeth Grinding and Clenching<\/strong><\/h2>

Teeth grinding (medically called Bruxism<\/strong>), is involuntary jaw movement resulting in forceful contact between the upper and lower teeth. It can sometimes create a grinding sound. Clenching is gritting of the teeth for a sustained period of time. Bruxism is also a cause, and symptom of jaw pain, also known as Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD).<\/p>

Bruxism has been associated with\u00a0snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA)<\/strong>\u00a0and other\u00a0sleep disorders<\/strong><\/p>

The\u00a0American Academy of Sleep Medicine<\/em>\u00a0has classified Sleep Bruxism as a\u00a0SLEEP RELATED MOVEMENT DISORDER<\/strong><\/p>

There are two types of bruxism<\/p>

  1. Primary bruxism \u2013no known cause<\/li>
  2. Secondary bruxism \u2013caused from something else<\/li><\/ol>

    Approximately 60% of the population will have Primary Bruxism, as a \u201cnormal\u201d grinding habit. In other words, they grind their teeth at night as a normal habit of their sleep.<\/p>
